“Every successful person has to go through countless failures, then can succeed. I don’t believe in a copycat business. Because it is not entrepreneurship. It is just an investment. If you want to see money faster, you can start a copycat business. If you’re planning to be an entrepreneur, then be prepared that you will not see fast money. Don’t start a business just because you see other people are making money. Start with a passion.”
Pete Teh, Founder of K-Tech Auto Solutions Pte Ltd / Motoserv Pte Ltd
K-Tech Auto Solution Pte Ltd specialises in helping clients set up automotive workshop facilities. The company is also an authorised training institute approved by the Institute of Motor Industry (IMI). IMI is a professional governing body of the worldwide motor vehicle industry based on data, standards and certifications. Presently there are just three IMI approved centres in Singapore.
Before starting K-Tech, Pete worked as a car mechanic in one of the local workshops for many years. Since he was young, he developed a strong passion for car mechanisms. He worked very hard to gain the experience and skills essential to repair all sorts of vehicles during his career.
In 2017, hybrids and electric vehicles (EV) were in high demand in Singapore. Pete tapped onto this opportunity since there was no training institution or diagnostic equipment available to help mechanics fix these complex hybrid car or EV issues. One can not simply repair a car with guesswork based on individual bias and experience; as automotive technology becomes more advanced – it will only lead to human error. A mechanic must have specialised skills and the proper diagnostic tool before they can resolve such an issue.
Therefore, Pete and his teams decided to form an academy under K-Tech, to train Singapore’s workshop operators and car mechanics on the specialised skills. They recruited curriculum developers, trainers, and industry champions of hybrid/EV cars and the motor industry. They also invited the assessor from the Institute of Motor Industry (IMI) to discuss and help set up the approved training centre.
The teams at K-Tech were also invited to supply Automotive Equipment to educational institutions such as ITEs and the polytechnics.
In 2015, after 11 years of providing automotive solutions and equipment to local workshops and mechanics, Pete and his team founded their own workshop brand, Motoserv Pte Ltd.
Their objective is to provide car servicing services with better diagnostic tools and an improved customer experience. We aim to provide the highest quality service possible by ensuring our technicians are well-trained, equipped with the proper tools, and have access to relevant information so that they can deliver optimal results consistently.
We want you to know that when you bring your car here for service or maintenance, we’ll treat it as if it were our own—with care and attention!
After just six years, the company has grown from two to six workshops in Singapore— it’s now one of the country’s largest car serving brands.
To ensure quality in customer service, Motoserv was awarded the prestigious CASETRUST accreditation. When we ask Pete about what makes for success as an entrepreneur like him? He says he doesn’t think anyone deserves that title because if it weren’t for his talented and hardworking teams — he wouldn’t have been able to grow this big!

Pete had no financial backing from an angel investor or venture capitalist when he started K-Tech. He used his hard-earned savings as seed capital. The first few years were difficult due to a lack of attention in educating and selling its products and services to customers. A company with limited capital will perish without constant dedication. He was determined to make his dream of starting a new business come true; regardless of how many setbacks he faced— big or small. With limited capital, the struggle would’ve been so much worse without his hardworking employees who helped fulfil his dream.
Even when business was picking up, Pete would never let ego take over him. He continued seeking to learn new things about management and industry-related skills. By doing so, the entrepreneur developed a strong mentality in overcoming any obstacle along the way.

People are an organisation’s greatest asset. Pete is always forward-looking when he recruits passionate people with a good work ethic for his company.
As the electric vehicle is considered a relatively new era, he aims to employ more local talent who picks up these specialised skills required to service electric vehicles efficiently. Pete also seeks for the government to play its part in this initiative by encouraging more individuals to sign up for training courses.
Pete strongly believes that any business needs employees who feel they belong and have an intrinsic motivation which makes them learn and how. They must also not see their jobs as something they clock in at 9 am and then head off home again at 5 pm sharp.
Pete also elaborated on how important it is to let your employees make decisions for the company independently. He discouraged micromanaging because this will create an environment where staff members are too reliant on upper management, which makes them incapable of expanding when they’re needed most.
The staff at his individual outlets deal with customers themselves unless there’s a problem that needs more assistance than what can be solved without going outside of the workplace. If it’s just a minor issue though, then they’ll report back to their workshop manager, general manager or Pete himself.
In summary, what entrepreneurs can learn from Pete’s story is his determination, humbleness, and willingness to teach. These three qualities are the definition of a successful entrepreneur!

“If you think you can handle everything yourself, you are making a big mistake. Hire people with a good attitude and then give them the freedom to represent your companies. Do not micro-manage.”
